hime is a Chrome extension for AI-assisted translation. This policy describes exactly what the Chrome Web Store build of hime does with your data. It was verified against that build’s own compiled output, not written from memory.
What leaves your browser
Nothing is sent anywhere until you take one of these actions:
- Compose mode or YOLO translate: you convert the text you are typing in an input field.
- In-place page translation: you ask hime to translate the text of the page you are on.
- Translate on selection: you select text on a page and translate it in place.
When you take one of these actions, the text involved (what you typed, or the page or selection text) is sent to the AI provider you configured. Nothing is sent as a result of browsing, typing, or opening a page on its own. No action, no request.
Where it goes
Your text goes directly from your browser to whichever of these three endpoints your chosen provider uses:
api.openai.comgenerativelanguage.googleapis.comopenrouter.ai
The developer runs no server. There is no intermediary between your browser and the provider, so there is nothing on our side that could log, store, or see your text. The request goes straight from your machine to the provider you picked.
Your API key
Your provider API key is stored by Chrome in chrome.storage.local, under the key
himeSettings, local to your browser profile. It is never transmitted anywhere except as the
authorization header of your own request to your own provider. It is never sent to the developer
or to any third party.
Site access
hime ships with no broad host permission. It does not run on a site until you grant that site access from the popup, and you can revoke that access from the popup at any time.
Analytics
None. hime collects no analytics and no telemetry. Nothing about your usage, your browsing, or your text is measured, aggregated, or transmitted for any purpose other than the translation request you triggered.
This statement is about the extension. The website you are reading this policy on is a separate thing and may use its own site analytics.
Remote code
None. hime fetches no remote code and evaluates no remote code at runtime. Every line of code that runs is in the package you installed from the Chrome Web Store. This is stated in these explicit terms because it is a Chrome Web Store policy requirement, not just a description.
Third parties
Your chosen provider’s own privacy policy governs what they do with the text you send them:
Changes
This policy is versioned by its effective date. Any change to what hime sends, where it sends it, or how it stores your key will come with a new effective date above.
